Anyone else feel the earthquake a minute ago around the Southern area of Ontario (GTA)?

Lasted about 10 seconds. Wasn’t that big, but was big enough to be felt. I’m interested in seeing how far this earthquake reached.

Edit: Earthquake felt all the way in Buffalo, Albany, and Pittsburgh!

Edit#2: Earthquake also felt in Montreal and Ottawa!

Edit#3: Felt near Lake Huron (Bruce County) and North Bay! Wow!

Edit#4: Reports of earthquake felt from Ontario to all the way in Michigan and Ohio!

Edit#5: Reaching all they way down to Vermont and Massachusetts?!

And Giambrone Strikes Out

February 11, 2010 Leave a comment

Oh poor Adam Giambrone, in my opinion the best candidate for the mayor of Toronto gets hit by a sex scandal which in politics has been seen several times (just look at US politics and read on) Giambrone admitted to an affair with a university student and said he would go on with being a mayoral candidate. It’s a shame because he resigned the next day, sure the scandal is bad but Adam clearly has a forthcoming career in politics and this shouldn’t ruin it. Now several Torontonians are calling for him to resign from the head of the TTC which he has done an overly good job with, and I myself have ridden the TTC more then 5 times and have never had a problem. But clearly like every scandal sides have been taken against Adam, the side for him and the side that thinks he is a pervert and doesn’t belong in office.

I’d like to remind people that Adam is only 32, and young people (I’d consider 32 to be younger) make mistakes, and they definitely should be given a second chance. Adam needs to handle the complaints that have come in over the last weeks, and continue to try and improve the TTC and improve his public image. Although he just ran for mayor for about 10 days, his public image over this scandal has just hit as low as it will be for years to come and this will be a challenge Adam should have to overcome. It would be stupid for Giambrone to resign as head of the TTC in my opinion, he needs to set some improvements and make the public happy with him again. I just hope this doesn’t put a damper on his for sure promising career in politics.

Hey Is That Chris Bosh? Jump The Line!

Misleading title is meant to be a little misleading but I assure you this has to do with several athletes. It started off with the Calgary Flames jumping the line so them and their families could get the H1N1 vaccine early. Now they shouldn’t even be getting considering the H1N1 shot was for priority groups only, but the likes of Jarome Iginla, and Dion Phanuef have become priority. Those priorities to the H1N1 shot include pregnant women, children between the age of 6 months and 5 years, people under the age of 65 with chronic conditions and those living in remote communities. Now I thought that this would be the only time we heard of a sports team jumping the line so to speak.

But, today it was reported both the Toronto Raptors, and the Toronto Maple Leafs had athletes receive the shot now this is just plain outrageous considering the suspected death of a two month old baby by H1N1. The Maple Leafs should feel even more disgraced to the city of Toronto and the province of Ontario especially with their mediocre start to the NHL season. Seriously these athletes are making more then a million a year for most of them, and I think any one of the athletes who went early should be fined. Maybe $10,000 dollars or some amount that seems feasible because their are tons of people who get seriously ill and could die. They didn’t deserve their shots early its as simple as that.

Toronto Sports Is Depressing, How Long Though?

Well the Leafs haven’t made the Playoffs or come close in years, and the Jays are nearing 20 years since they last made the Playoffs, the Toronto Raptors missed the Playoffs and Toronto FC has never made the Playoffs. To add onto that Toronto Argonauts suck as well, and looks like they will miss the Playoffs this year as well. But fear not Toronto sports fans for it looks better for two teams then it did last year and Toronto FC is still a young franchise. Evidence proofs that the Raptors have managed to turn it totally around as there roster has been bolstered by huge additions in Hedo Turkoglu and Jarret Jack. But I digress, the Jays look to be totally left to rot by Rogers and the owners of the team it really doesn’t look good for the Blue Jays it would be kind of awesome to have Maple Leaf Entertainment buy the team. Owning the Leafs, Raptors, Marlies, Toronto FC bolstering Toronto sports with the Blue Jays would be awesome in my opinion.

Now there is still a untapped market in Toronto and is that the huge MMA fanbase that is here in Ontario I remember walking by a bar while getting snacks for UFC 102 after I saw a sign that said “UFC 102 Here Tonight” There was tons of people inside it was almost packed to the brim, it’s a untapped market that Dana White (President Of The UFC) Would like to tap into after great success of UFC in Montreal especially with a hometown favorite in George St. Pierre. It would be awesome to help boost Toronto sports with sucess of UFC, but it looks like some of the loyal fans in Toronto are supporting the failures of the Maple Leafs and understand rebuilding. Not with the Blue Jays though, as general manager who hopefully will be gone after the season J.P. Riccardi has seemed to fail in his 8 year tenure with the Blue Jays. Every team with the exception of Toronto FC is in rebuilding mode but there is promise on the horizon.

But fear not because it will be better in the future rebuilding will do that and with several improvements to the Air Canada Centre (Raptors and Leafs games can be now held in the same day) It should look good in the future, but for now I’d give it 3-5 years until we have more then one winning team in Toronto or we have non depressing sporting in Toronto.

17 Year Old Given Life In Prison

July 29, 2009 5 comments

If you live in Canada you’ve probably already heard the story of the murder of 14 year old Stefanie Rengal. Well, the girlfriend who pressured her boyfriend to kill Rengal is known as Melissa Todorovic, who was sentenced to life in prison. With no eligibility for parole for 7 years (she’s probably lucky it’s so low). Basically the story sums out like this,¬† Melissa tells her boyfriend for months to kill Rengal, or Melissa withholds sex from the boyfriend. The boyfriend had never met Rengal, but because of Melissa’s hate towards Rengal, it sparked him to believe she was a rival. Eventually the boyfriend kills Rengal, and has pleaded guilty to the killing. The boyfriend is known only as “D.B.” For now, he will be sentenced in the fall months.

Now my opinion on this is that the parole time for Melissa is way too low. The parole should be set after 15 years due to the circumstances of the crime. The boyfriend is no doubt going to get the same system with more time before he is eligible before parole. Now I want to hear some opinions or comments on what your opinion is on this, the sentence, or even the whole situation. It’s barbaric that a killer (well someone who convinced as much as she did) could be out of jail in 7 years.

The 2009 UEFA Champions!

What an exciting game! I had the pleasure of watching this game with two Manchester United to-the-gut fans and being the only one to support Barcelona! Although I hate both teams altogether, I did not want to see Manchester United win with their professional dives trained by C. Ronaldo and ruthless arrogance. I even had the luck of guessing the score, 2-0, and I was right.

The Game

At the tenth minute, Samuel Eto’o comes in with a roaring kick right off the keeper and into the back of the net. Any team to score so early on in the game has claimed it’s seat as the victor of the match. Before that goal, Manchester United was hammering the Barcelona defense and making ¬†Valdez sweat. But it seems that Man. Utd. lost all of their hope at the point of the first goal.

Motivation was tough for the next part of the first half, as Barcelona game back with full force raping Man. Utd. altogether. Back and forth, back and forth, pass, pass, pass, pass. Barcelona kept control of the ball, and at any point when Rooney got hold of the ball, Pique was right at him to read Rooney’s moves and stop him in his tracks. It seemed hopeless for Man. Utd., and my two “enemies for the match” didn’t like the smirk on my face at the time.

Etoo with the goal!

Eto’o with the goal!

Second Half

All the while, chomping on the chips and drinking some orange soda, half-time came along and we watched the Jays winning their game for the while. Returning to the game, Barcelona was confident as ever, but underestimated Man. Utd. Man. Utd. ran back with greater motivation and attempted to score a fantastic goal in the second half. Alas, it was not to be with J. S. Park missing the header, crucial for the game. C. Ronaldo looked very upset and angry as everytime he dived, the referee would just not accept it. He wasn’t bribed, he was just doing his job, like a proper referee should!

At the 60th minute, Xavi came in with a roaring pass over the heads of the Man. Utd. defense, straight at Messi, who launches a full-body header right in the back of the net! Van der Sar had absolutely no chance against such a powerful shot. 2-0 it was, and for the rest of the game, Barcelona attempted to score another goal, but they knew that they could take it easy and take full control of the ball. As long as it did not go to Man. Utd., they could waste time and secure their win.

That is exactly what they did, and each team sent in substitutes to make the game more challenging. Berbatov was called in for Man. Utd., but he wasn’t of much help. The tide was anywhere from changed. Alas, the end of the game had come at last. To the sadness of the Man. Utd. fans next to me, Barcelona had won with a shady 2-0. Excellent play and control of the ball, with no loss in motivation allowed them to win. Such confidence led to the year’s victory.

With the angry emotions roaring from the Man. Utd. fans around me, we decided to skip parts of the end of the game so it wouldn’t anger them any further. We returned to the Jays game and perhaps I jinxed it, for right at that moment, the Jays were out and they had lost the game. I’m not a Jays fan, so I wasn’t supporting them at all, but those Man. Utd. fans around me were also Jays fans. Oh man. What a tough situation.

The Ceremony

There’s nothing too exciting about this. Just the normal stuff with handing out medals, telling the loser, “oh you did well, good luck next year”, yada yada yada. Barcelona was engraved onto the UEFA cup, and handed to the captain of Barcelona, good ol’ Puyol. What a victory at Roma, just what awaits us all next year at the Champions League?
