The Blood Falls

An extremely interesting article speaking of a microbial ecosystem in Antartica where the area is the least hospitable place on Earth! DNA samples have lead scientists to believe that the microbes and bacteria living in the harsh iron area are close relatives to much of modern marine life.

Sort of looks like Mars 🙂

Blood Falls reminds me of our well water. It would look like that if it was frozen. It has such a high iron content that any untreated water will turn orange if heated and develop an opalescent sheen on its surface.
We don’t live far from the Atlantic ocean and our well is deeper than most in the area.

Wow, I wouldn’t want to drink that water =P

The water actually tastes pretty good as it goes through a filtration system prior to ending up as our drinking water.

In that case, “ah, refreshing” 🙂
