Earth Hour

March 28; Earth Hour. Did you participate? 🙂

I didn’t. Well, I sort of did. Rather, I couldn’t. Hmm, confusing. I was at work at the time and couldn’t do much about it, but my workplace decided to cut 2/3rds of the electricity that was in use in order to participate. And friends and family did do the same at home.

I think Earth Hour is awesome! I’ve participated for the second year and it is fun. Turning off (almost) all the electricity and sitting in the dark is not so bad. Well, unless you sit in the dark and just… sit there. There’s actually a lot one can do, such as head outside and play sports or even have a BBQ with the family! I love BBQ’s 😀

If it’s too cold to go outside, then grab some candles and play boardgames. A few friends have done that before. I think Earth Hour really does raise awareness of Global Warming and the environment. This year, many major landmarks over the world participated in Earth Hour, including the good ol’  CN Tower.

WWF officials call Earth Hour “the world’s first ever global vote about the future of our planet.” And they are right. For good reason. almost 53 million people from 35 countries around the world participated in Earth Hour! The UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon has described Earth Hour as “the largest demonstration of public concern about climate change ever attempted.”

Just one hour without the lights, can create so much fun, and so much connection with the people of the world. Whether you believe in Global Warming or not, isn’t it worthwhile to spend an hour with your family? Be aware of the environment! It won’t be here forever.
