17 Year Old Given Life In Prison

July 29, 2009 5 comments

If you live in Canada you’ve probably already heard the story of the murder of 14 year old Stefanie Rengal. Well, the girlfriend who pressured her boyfriend to kill Rengal is known as Melissa Todorovic, who was sentenced to life in prison. With no eligibility for parole for 7 years (she’s probably lucky it’s so low). Basically the story sums out like this,  Melissa tells her boyfriend for months to kill Rengal, or Melissa withholds sex from the boyfriend. The boyfriend had never met Rengal, but because of Melissa’s hate towards Rengal, it sparked him to believe she was a rival. Eventually the boyfriend kills Rengal, and has pleaded guilty to the killing. The boyfriend is known only as “D.B.” For now, he will be sentenced in the fall months.

Now my opinion on this is that the parole time for Melissa is way too low. The parole should be set after 15 years due to the circumstances of the crime. The boyfriend is no doubt going to get the same system with more time before he is eligible before parole. Now I want to hear some opinions or comments on what your opinion is on this, the sentence, or even the whole situation. It’s barbaric that a killer (well someone who convinced as much as she did) could be out of jail in 7 years.

Governer Quitter

Last Sunday, Sarah Palin has resigned from the position of Governer of Alaska. She held the position for two and a half years, and resigned early. With 17 months to go, the only speculation for many people is that Sarah Palin is a ‘quitter’. And the people are not wrong. For someone who was elected by the people, she cannot simply become tired of her job and quit whenever she decides to. It is not as if every person in the position of great responsibility has the liability to do that.

There are speculations that she may run in the 2012 election, but I highly doubt she would make any significance. She is not fit to serve on behalf of the people. For someone who readily enjoys shooting down wolves from a helicopter, she is not as ready to serve the American (rather the Alaskan) people.

The media is to be blamed for much that is wrong in this world, but the backlash Palin threw at the media during her speech was a short resemblance of funny. The media cannot help but poke fun at Sarah Palin. After all, she is quite cooky. She was absolutely horrible in the 2008 presidential election, and she is much too inexperienced in the political world.

Simply put, Sarah Palin is a quitter, and she is not fit to be part of the American government.

Stereotypes?

This clip was taken from a CNN news report, showing a  van being caught in a motor accident. And all the passengers escaping out of the vehicle, in order to avoid being caught as they were illegal immigrants. Watch the video and explain this: Are stereotypes just ignorant, or do they actually have a stem of reality supporting them?

Rain Can Be Tragic

This is basically a news story that I wanted to share. Since I am a native of Pakistan, it’s only natural that I keep tabs on things happening there. Once I got this news, I was horrified. There have been small flood happening in the sea-port city of Karachi. This was caused my massive rainstorms and inadequate gutters and plumbing, leading to overflow in drainage and massive gathering of water in the streets.

Now majority of Karachiites are poor people who either live below or just above the poverty line. So you should understand that they do not have the same amenities that we here in Canada take for granted. To them cheap source of water, plumbing, food, electricity is not granted if they have a home. Therefore, bathing regularly to keep cool during 40*c is a luxury. So what happens during this supposed blessing of cool rains and showers? Well naturally the kids and youths storm to the streets to bathe and cool off. But during this expectantly happy time, tragedy struck. The open gutters caused some of these kids to fall in them and drown. Others times faulty wiring and loose electric cables, fell and electrocuted the people, including grownups. In a single incident, a wall of a house fell on its inhabitants, killing a mother and her young daughter, who was only seven years old. In other cases, the roofs of houses have been reported too fall, injuring and killing the people inside.

Now I do not place the burden on the builders of these systems, as they could only do with the money that was given to them, and knowing politicians in any country, they probably took most of the grants for themselves. And it was the regular citizens who ended up with the bad side of the shady dealings. I do however blame the planners, engineers and designers who build the crappy system and led to the way that these innocent people die.

All in all, about 35 known deaths have been reported, with the death doll expect to rise considering that only now the rescue operations have been increased and over 150 people have been injured. On top of that electricity has been short-circuited since July 18, so now on top tragic deaths; there is a blackout throughout the entire city, with the hospitals running on outdated and leaky emergency electric generators for 2 days. So what can we do about this? Not much I’m afraid, except pray and hope for those who need it. We also need to help with the aid of those who need it, as I personally have sent a sum of money to be used for aid. As the future, we kids should not be caught up in the wild hysteria and corruption of the world and work towards making it better. And a Pakistani, become someone who can contribute to your country and help the victims who suffer these disgusting transgressions.

The Old Man Named Cain

July 13, 2009 6 comments

Deep in the mountains lived an old man named Cain,
He lived up there all alone with no sense of fame,
Cain was a miner who searched for gold grain.

Everyday he would mine and mine across the plain,
And overlook the little town which he left in shame,
The townsfolk called Cain insane,
For he mined only because of a story his father once sang*.

To the townsfolk Cain’s hardship seemed like a game,
But to Cain his struggle was his only gain,
At night as he would sleep he would hear the “TOOT-TOOT” of the train,
And in the morning he would see a new invention called the “airplane”.

One day Cain awoke to find something strange,
A little boy just a wee bit high dozing off out in the range,
As Cain crept closer he saw the little boy was estranged,
He brought the little boy into his home and opened a book to a certain
page*,
“This is a very sick boy”, said Cain.

Cain laid the little boy down in his bed and saw that he was in much pain,
So he took care of him all night until dawn without disdain,
He became so tired that he fell asleep without restrain.

Late in the afternoon Cain awoke to find that there was no little boy in
his bed near the windowpane,
He checked all around to make sure he was certain,
But he found no trace of a little boy and thought that maybe he really was
insane,
So he went back into his home to rest his brain.

The next day as Cain was mining he found a little gold grain,
In excitement he mined further and found a large gold stain,
His father’s story was true and not at all mundane,
But all of it was more than what Cain could contain.

So Cain decided to share his treasure with the town below the mountain,
For he felt that all this treasure was not alone for him to claim,
See Cain’s town was very lame,
Nature in its anger had ruined much of the harvest grain,
And with little food or money the town could barely support its frame.

Cain ventured down the mountain and found the townsfolk to exclaim,
“After many years of hardwork, I finally found that my hunch was sane”,
He then showed the townsfolk a small piece of his gold grain,
From the many gasps of wonder it eventually became an applause of
thunder*.

With Cain’s treasure the town became a merry place even in the gloomy
rain,
Cain had only to thank his kindness for his new glory and fame,
For he new that by being kind to others it would bring him good luck and a
great name.

Sperm Cells from Stem Cells

After reading about this new-found discovery… I sort of laughed. And I laughed even more so when I read an article on BBC describing how many bloggers out there and other random people (mostly women) thought of this. Sadly, the majority of them thought that it makes men redundant and irrelevant. Why need men when you can create artificial sperm?

I am absolutely cracking up at the thought of this. What is the world without men? Absolutely nothing. If we think  about it, by attempting to eradicate men, we make men into a species. I personally, don’t want to be considered a species based on my gender.

Women are the intellectual and emotional types. Women are able to think critically and have a strong sense of emotion, which allows them to become such doting parents.  Men are the epitome of muscle. We don’t like using our brain too much, although we love using our brawn, and even showing it off. Men and women are like conjoined twins. We cannot live without each other, nor can we live with each other.

With human sperm being created in a petri dish, this changes all that. It seems to many people, that the opposite sex can indeed, live without each other. But essentially, we cannot. If that were to become the case, then the emotion of “love” due to sexual attraction will all but be gone. Children who will be brought up in a world where there are no men, will grow to be quite inept compared to those who are. Children learn various skills from both the male and female parent. The male concentrates on physical activities, while the female concentrates on the skill aptitute.

What happens to male children who are born into an all-female society? Are these children brought up in care through family or are they simply grown to feel inferior to their female counterparts and live a submissive life? This simply destroys all values of equality.

In the evolutionary sense, sexual dimorphism will also disappear – truly giving way to an all-female world. Modern men and women have lived in the same world for more than 200, 000 years (close to seven million, depending on how you look at it). Why not live together even longer?

In the end, I don’t see a world without men. I don’t see a world without women, either. But if we begin to use artificial human sperm to supplement our feelings of revenge or supreriority, the world may be a darker place (especially for men).

Here is what a gentleman on Macleans.ca blog says about this new discovery:

WE MUST CRUSH THIS! Take away their funding, burn all evidence, delete all records, kidnap and kill those who made the discovery and then bury this entire story under some celebrity scandal. Men can’t become irrelevant!

I wholly agree :)

Amnesty International Reports On Gaza War Crimes

During the small (not really) offensive Israel launched against Hamas between late December and January, Israel committed reckless acts of destruction. Amnesty International claims that many war crimes were committed against Palestinians living in Gaza during the offensive by Israel.

Hundreds of Palestinians were killed due to high-precision missiles and many more were gunned down at close range. While Israel claims the offensive and military conduct followed international law, Amnesty International reports that children on rooftops and even medical staff were killed due to high-precision missiles. At the same time, Israel also reports that some of the civilian deaths were completely accidental.

Amnesty International says nearly 1400 Palestinians were killed during the 22 day offensive. More than 900 of those deaths were of civilians, which include 300 children, and 115 women. These numbers argue with what the Israeli military claims of more than 1100 Palestinian deaths, which almost 300 of them were civilians. Amnesty International claims that such a high number of civilian deaths cannot be simply overlooked and called “mistakes”. Many deaths were also the cause of the Israeli military interfering with medical operations and medical staff from reaching injured Palestinians.

Amnesty International also reports that the way public buildings and homes were destroyed had to be a deliberate attack, and could not have been by pure accident. These all constitute war crimes, says Donatella Rovera.

War Crimes

Women and children who posed no threat to the Israeli military were gunned down at close quarters when they were fleeing their homes in search of shelter. Amnesty International found no evidence that Hamas ever used Palestinian civilian as human shields. On the other hand, Amnesty International reports that Israel in fact did use civilians in Gaza as human shields.

During the offensive, only 13 Israeli’s were killed, which included only three civilians.

One More Minute

Just one more minute before the clock hits 12:00 AM and July 2nd comes again. Happy Canada Day (orDominion Day) to everyone out there!

I had a pretty fantastic day. I got to work on a holiday and then hang out with friends and watch the fireworks. I am very, very tired so I am putting this up because I just cannot get something else up and running. I’m sort of falling asleep right here, haha.

Well, to all a good night. Enjoy your midnight BBQ’s and don’t drink too much! And, of course, don’t drive.

PEACE!
